Overview:

The position of Safety Specialist is responsible for providing administrative, training, inspecting, auditing, and program management safety specialist services to Sunrun to ensure that all employees are working safely and are in compliance with all state and federal environmental, health, and safety regulations. This position achieves this through program development, implementation, and enforcement. This position maintains a moderate level of autonomy, independence, and great level of responsibility for providing information that will help provide the safety of company employees and property.


Responsibilities:

  • Live and promote a culture of safety by leading by example
  • Evaluate the workplace for hazards and generate job hazard assessments for job positions
  • Recommend measures to help protect workers from potentially hazardous work conditions
  • Coordinate and provide initial and renewal safety training to company employees which include employees in remote locations
  • Inspect and audit residential and commercial project sites, warehouses, offices, and vehicles, equipment, and work practices to ensure both internal and external (OSHA) compliance
  • Ensure disciplinary actions are followed through when violations are found
  • Investigate accidents to identify their causes (contributing and root causes), determine how they might be prevented in the future, and communicate those findings to impacted team members (Safety Bulletin development)
  • Ensure record keeping data is accurate and up to date (i.e.: training/weekly safety meeting rosters, certifications, incident forms, IIRCCA forms, Safety Bulletins, exposure, and inspection/auditing records) for all locations
  • Maintain up to date incident database, safety report metrics (leading and lagging indicators), and OSHA 300 Logs
  • Support creation and revision of new/existing safety programs by keeping abreast of current safety regulations
  • Support in Workers' Compensation case management with employee, manager, case worker follow-up, ensuring best possible outcome (minimized to zero modified/loss work days)
  • Travel to project sites for inspecting/auditing, training, or work purposes to continue education construction team members in the construction safety compliance and safe work procedures.
  • Provide Safety information for commercial RFPs (Requests For Proposals)
  • Review, edit, support in the creation of, and approve site specific safety plans
  • Consider the design of industrial, office, and other equipment to maximize workers' comfort (ergonomics), safety, and productivity
  • Provide safety services for non-construction (General Industry) office, warehouse, and vehicle environments
  • Support the Safety & Quality department as required by the Director of Safety, Quality, & Cost


Qualifications:

REQUIREMENTS (EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, CERTIFICATIONS, AND OTHER SKILLS)

  • Bachelor's degree preferred (i.e.: Industrial Engineering, Occupational Health & Safety, or other safety/construction/engineering related degree)
  • Knowledge of OSHA guidelines (California, Federal, and other state OSHA programs)
  • Some level of construction background/understanding
  • Strong work ethic, critical thinker, and excellent attention to detail (quality of work)
  • Strong presentation/training skills
  • Strong computer knowledge, including MS Office (Word, Excel, Power point), email, internet, PDF editing, database management
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Positive and optimistic attitude
  • Clean DMV, drug test results, and background check

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Ability to work safely in a branch/warehouse environment
  • Ability to operate office equipment including computers and determine accuracy of work
  • Ability to interact with co-workers and participate in meetings
  • Ability to work on rooftops with various angles and surfaces
  • Ability to work in outdoor weather conditions
