Facilities Management at Old Dominion University is seeking candidates for the DIN Technician (full-time, 12 month) position. The DIN Technician will respond promptly to customer needs and requests. Perform a wide variety of general maintenance tasks to solve the situation at hand. Be proactive regarding preventative maintenance and identification of repairs required and areas for improvement.

Required Education: Considerable knowledge in building HVAC and plumbing system and their operation.

Required Qualifications: Basic knowledge in electrical field. Working knowledge of all hand tools used in the trades such as electrical testing meter, water gauges, and alignment instruments to perform preventive maintenance on a variety of mechanical equipment. Demonstrated ability to use and follow department and manufacture recommendations and guidelines both written and oral to perform preventive maintenance on HVAC, plumbing, and electrical equipment and their associated controls. Considerable experience performing maintenance and repair of building mechanical systems in a light commercial institutional setting.

Additional Considerations: Mechanical license, plumbing license, electrical license or equivalent training and certification in all or one of these fields and City of Norfolk backflow certification. Training in preventive maintenance and repair of building mechanical equipment in one or more trades.

Conditions of Employment: Facilities Management employees are considered essential personnel and subject to working during university closings. The holder of this position is also subject to serving on a schedule to be called back to work during non-work hours. In such an event, this position is required to respond to after-hours calls and will carry an ODU cell phone on a rotational basis. While serving as the after-hours call-back person, the individual must remain available by telephone, text, or pager while off site and respond to any message within fifteen (15) minutes.
